“…The two theories that have been most widely accepted are those of Torpin (14), which proposes a deep implantation in the decidua, after which the placenta "herniates" into the decidua capsularis; and that of Pinkerton (8), which suggests repeated haemorrhages along the edges. A relationship between circumvallation and antepartum haemorrhage has been found by several investigators (2,3,7,12,17). Pinkerton (8) and Fox & Sen (4) are the only authors who do not find this relationship.…”
