Hemosiderotic dermatofibroma mimicking melanoma: A case report and review of the literature

Abstract: is a common benign skin tumor. Hemosiderotic dermatofibroma (HDF) is a rare variant of DF. It often mimics other skin lesions including melanocytic lesions and vascular tumors. In this report, we described the clinical features and histopathological findings of a rare HDF case that mimics melanoma. Dermatofibroma (DF) is a common benign cutaneous lesion generally reported in the trunk or extremities of young or middle-aged adults with a slight predominance in females. 1,2 Based on specific histopathological fe… Show more

“…The isolation of diffractions and the migration had been proven effective in reducing the above-surface diffractions (Li et al, 2021a). Traditional methods perform migration to the whole data set without isolating each group of diffractions; thus, the cluttered diffractions are still strongly interfered in the migrated domain (Carpentier et al, 2010).…”

“…This method performs plane wave decomposition-based local curvature analysis to separate diffractions from reflections. However, as a data-driven method, it relies on curvature analysis in the data domain (Fomel et al, 2007;Li et al, 2021a;Song et al, 2021;Li and Zhang, 2022b) and is vulnerable to the influence of the original signal-to-noise ratio. Additionally, all rapid local variations of curvature tend to be regarded as diffractions, while the others are regarded as reflections.…”

“…3 In summary, aneurysmal dermatofibroma may show variable, ubiquitous dermatoscopic, and clinical features that may mimic more commonly observed, benign, or malignant cutaneous neoplasms. 5 Therefore, histopathologic examination has the uppermost significance for the determination of aneurysmal dermatofibroma from the other skin diseases.…”
