Hemostasis in pregnant women with COVID‐19

Abstract: Pregnancy is a prothrombotic condition characterized by a procoagulant imbalance that serves to protect women from bleeding but increases their risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE). 1 Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has not spared pregnant women with regards to VTE. 2 A coagulopathy that increases the risk of thrombosis has been reported in patients with severe COVID-19 infection. 3 At present, no data are available on the hemostatic status of pregnant women with COVID-19, and whether coagulation paramete… Show more

“… 99 In a pilot study that included 21 pregnant women in the second and third trimester with COVID‐19 and 48 without, a higher aPTT level, platelet count and lower fibrinogen, D‐dimer levels, and antithrombin time were observed in patient COVID‐19 positive pregnant women as compared to COVID‐19 negative. However, there was no difference observed in CRP and FVIII levels 100 . Pregnancy is already a known risk for venous thromboembolism characterizing by a procoagulant imbalance.…”

“…The hemostatic status of pregnant women with COVID-19 has been studied [11]. This study was similar in pregnant women with COVID-19 who were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms and in pregnant women without infection [11].…”
