Feracryl is a hemostatic drug of local action [1,2] licensed for the practical application.Because feracryl can be used under conditions favorable to the development of wound infection, it was of interest to study the antibacterial and antifungal properties of the drug.
EXPERIMENTAL PARTThe bacteriostatic and mycostatic activity of feracryl with respect to 11 strains of microorganisms was determined by the method of serial dilutions. We have studied Experiments were performed on 18-h broth incubated cultures of streptococcus and staphylococcus (meat-extract broth supplemented with 10% normal horse seruna), 18-h agar cultures (Hottinger broth) of the other bacteria, and 3 -5-day broth incubated cultures of microsporon (Sabouraud's medium). The microbial load was 250 • 103 cells per ml medium, and the microsporon was introduced into the incubation medium at an amount of 500 x 103 reproductive cells per ml.The feracryl preparations were studied at a concentration of 1% (medication form) and below. The tests were performed in a thermostat: bacteria were incubated for 18 h at 37~ and the fungi were exposed for 5 -7 days at 28~ The minimum bacteriostatic (MBSC) and mycostatic (MMSC) concentrations of the drug were determined upon visual evaluation of the growth of microorganisms. The bactericidal action was studied on the same bacterial strains by the method of double serial dilutions in a liquid nutrient medium. The dynamic effect was studied with respect to St. aureus 209-P, E. coli 675, B. anthracis 1312, Sh. flexneri 2a-516, and P. aeruginosa 165. In the latter case, fer-
