“…The OpTDC2 activity was measured by calculating the production of tryptamine, as described previously [26‐27]. To avoid tryptophan and PLP form an irreversible Pictet‐Spengler reaction in solution, we first mixed the 1 mM PLP with the OpTDC2 [54.6 pkat (mg protein) –1 ], then 1 mM l ‐tryptophan was added into that solution to start this catalytic reaction.…”

“…The tryptophan decarboxylase gene of P. lactiflora (PlTDC) in the melatonin biosynthesis pathway enhanced the tolerance of transgenic tobacco to drought, which was induced for 18 days in the absence of water at 22°C. When the NaCl concentration was 200 mM, there was no difference between transgenic and WT leaf disks, but when the NaCl concentration was >200 mM, the green area of leaf disks of WT lines gradually shrank, especially at 800 mM, where the WT leaf disks all turned brown, in contrast to those of transgenic lines, in which only a few turned brown 177 . When P. lactiflora was treated at a low temperature (4°C), the expression level of the cold resistance gene PlGPAT remained high for 72 h, indicating its role in cold resistance 178 .…”

“…Biochemical and molecular research contributes to better understanding and possible regulation of developmental traits, from stress tolerance [ 60 , 61 ] to flower color [ 62 , 63 ] and biosynthesis of secondary metabolites [ 64 ]. Currently, the first priority for genetic research should be introduction of disease resistance to new cultivars, and recent reports confirm possibility of this direction [ 65 67 ].…”
