Cancer is a devastating disease and the primary cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with cancer metastasis responsible for 90% of cancer-related deaths. Cancer metastasis is a multistep process characterized by spreading of cancer cells from the primary tumor and acquiring molecular and phenotypic changes that enable them to expand and colonize in distant organs. Despite recent advancements, the underlying molecular mechanism(s) of cancer metastasis is limited and requires further exploration. In addition to genetic alterations, epigenetic changes have been demonstrated to play an important role in the development of cancer metastasis. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are considered one of the most critical epigenetic regulators. By regulating signaling pathways and acting as decoys, guides, and scaffolds, they modulate key molecules in every step of cancer metastasis such as dissemination of carcinoma cells, intravascular transit, and metastatic colonization. Gaining a good knowledge of the detailed molecular basis underlying lncRNAs regulating cancer metastasis may provide previously unknown therapeutic and diagnostic lncRNAs for patients with metastatic disease. In this review, we concentrate on the molecular mechanisms underlying lncRNAs in the regulation of cancer metastasis, the cross-talk with metabolic reprogramming, modulating cancer cell anoikis resistance, influencing metastatic microenvironment, and the interaction with pre-metastatic niche formation. In addition, we also discuss the clinical utility and therapeutic potential of lncRNAs for cancer treatment. Finally, we also represent areas for future research in this rapidly developing field.

Introdução: A hipertensão arterial sistêmica é uma doença crônica que gera alterações metabólicas e fisiológicas no organismo humano. O tratamento pode ser por meio de medicamentos alopáticos e estudos recentes tem demonstrado a possibilidade do uso de fitoterápicos, a partir de plantas medicinais com princípio anti-hipertensivo. Objetivo: Analisar as evidências disponíveis na literatura sobre fitoterápicos com efeito anti-hipertensivo. Métodos: Estudo de revisão integrativa, onde foram utilizadas as bases de dados LILACS, PubMed e Scielo, considerando os seguintes termos “hypertension” e “phytotherapy”. Resultados: No total 187 estudos foram identificados e 17 estudos foram incluídos. Os estudos abordaram em sua maioria mais de um fitoterápico, entre eles predominou-se o alho, gengibre, moringa e hibisco. O Allium sativum foi a planta medicinal mais citada, por apresentar efeitos cardiovasculares, anti-hipertensivo e também usado para aterosclerose. A Moringa oleífera e o Zenziber officinale, demonstraram ação no eixo renina-angiotensina-aldosterona, atuando como inibidor da Enzima Conversora de Angiotensina I. Conclusão: As plantas medicinais apresentaram potencial efeito anti-hipertensivo, e estes resultados foram predominantes em estudos in vitro e in vivo. Pelo número inferior de estudos em seres humanos, faz-se necessários novos estudos com a população alto. Nesse aspecto, embora seja potencialmente reconhecido os efeitos anti-hipertensivo das plantas medicinais, muitas espécies deverão submeter-se a estudos direcionados para avaliação da dose segura e eficaz corroborando com melhor evidência clínica em humanos.

Hypertension (HTN) is an important worldwide public health issue affecting human health. The pathogenesis of HTN involves complex factors such as genetics, external environment, diet, and the gut microbial dysbiosis. The gut microbiota, as a medium of diet and drug metabolism, is closely correlated to host’s health and disease (including HTN). Literatures were randomly collected from various databases including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). In this review, we elucidate the relationship between HTN and gut microbiota, as well as concerning the effects of different dietary components, diet-derived microbial metabolites, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) on intestinal flora. These studies have shown that diet and TCM can regulate and balance the intestinal flora, which are inclined to increasing the abundance of Akkermansia, Bifidobacterium, and Bacteroides and reducing the ratio of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. Moreover, monitoring the dynamic change of gut microflora may indicate patient prognosis and personalized response to treatment. This review aims to provide novel perspectives and potential personalized interventions for future HTN management from the perspective of gut microbiota.
