Mouth ulcers are small sores that form on your gums, lips, tongue, inner cheeks or roof of your mouth. Lots of different things can cause them, including minor injuries, hormonal changes, biting your cheeks or tongue, lack of sleep, eating acidic food, emotional stress and oral hygiene. Many mouth ulcers go away on their own. Others may require treatment .Generally, for prevention of Mouth ulcers/canker sores the different types of formulations are used, such as pastes, gels, tablets, paints and mouthwashes. Psidium guajava Linn. (guava) is used not only as food but also as folk medicine in subtropical areas around the world because of its pharmacologic activities.It is demonstrated that the pharmacological ability of this plant to show antioxidant, hepatoprotective, anti allergy, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, cardioactive, antidiabetic, anti inflammatory and antinociceptive activities. Guava leaves mouthwash was effective for aphthous ulcers in terms of reduction of symptoms of pain and faster reduction of ulcer size. further formulating mouthwash which has efficiency to inhibit the growth of the microorganism. This study is an attempt to outline such natural substances, which may be used as effective mouthwashes.

The present study aims to develop and evaluate an emulgel that contains curcumin, clove oil, and basil oil for the treatment of mouth ulcers. Emulgels have become a potentially effective method of delivering hydrophobic medications. Menthol was used as a penetration enhancer, which also provides cooling effect to ulcers, whereas clove oil also acts as a penetration enhancer. The herbal medicines such as clove oil, tulsi (basil) oil, curcumin, and menthol have very good antiulcer activity. Clove oil has analgesic and antioxidant activity whereas, basil oil obtained from ocimum basilicum plants has antimicrobial and analgesic activity. Curcumin is obtained from curcuma longa which acts as anti-inflammatory and as antiseptic, whereas menthol provides cooling to the ulcers or oral sore. Five formulations were prepared and evaluated for viscosity, spreadability, extrudability, diffusion tests, and short-term stability. At the end of the five-hour investigation, the optimised formulation (E3G3S5T2) had showed drugs (clove, basil, and curcumin) release of 79 ± 3.2%, 72.22 ± 3.1%, and 72.07 ± 4.8% respectively. From the study, it can be suggested that the emulgel can be delivered and used topically and has better penetrating capabilities.

Introduction: Oral health is important for general health because, without proper oral hygiene, bacteria can reach levels that might lead to oral infections. Pathogens' resistance to traditional antibiotic products available on the market represents a point of common interest to the scientific community throughout the world and has led to a pressing need to develop new and innovative antimicrobial agents, and among the potential sources of new agents, plants have represented a good alternative. This research is looking at the biological activities of the licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) plant as an antimicrobial agent for oral infections. Method: The antimicrobial activities of various extract fractions prepared from methanol, chloroform, and cyclohexane were evaluated against selected oral pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candia albicans, using the agar-well diffusion method. Results: The results indicated that methanolic extract had antimicrobial activity against the selected isolates, with a zone of inhibition equal to 23mm for S. aureus, 14mm for E. coli, 15mm for P. aeruginosa, and 22mm for C. albicans. Regarding sensitivity, the results showed that S. aureus and C. albicans were the most sensitive isolates toward the tested licorice extracts. The results also showed that licorice extract in chloroform and cyclohexane had no activity against the tested isolates of Gram-negative bacteria. Conclusion: In conclusion, our study provides further evidence of the antimicrobial activity of G. glabra, especially against the selected isolates, and encourages the use of this plant in a suitable dosage form to treat the oral cavity infection that could possibly be caused by the tested microbes.
