During the early stages of the Industrial Revolution, canals played a crucial role in facilitating the rapid development of factories. Despite economic downturns and the rise of alternative transportation towards the end of the last century, canals have been experiencing a resurgence in recent years, driven by the principles of sustainable development. To gain a deeper understanding of global academic research focus and current trends, this paper systematically reviews publications related to canal-related industrial buildings from 1997 to 22 January 2024. Using the bibliometric software CiteSpace 6.3.1, information such as countries, institutions, authors, keywords, and references from 96 selected articles in the Web of Science (WoS) database was visualized and analyzed. The results reveal that the current research hotspots in this field mainly focus on five clusters: “stakeholders”, “green spaces”, “conservation areas”, “industrial heritage”, and “energy-efficient reconstruction”. The most popular research topics concerning canal-related industrial buildings are “urban renewal”, “industrial heritage”, “climate change”, and “heritage tourism”, with most themes closely linked to sustainable development. However, it is observed that there is still a lack of a systematic research framework in this field. Most studies originate from heritage management and conservation, landscape rejuvenation along canals, and canal water resource management, while systematic research on canal-related industrial buildings remains limited. Based on these findings, this study proposes future trends and potential research directions in this field, aiming to provide researchers with a comprehensive understanding of the status and to support the sustainable preservation and management of industrial buildings and heritage along canals with a more systematic research framework.

Tarihi kaynaklara ve arkeolojik çalışmalara bakıldığı zaman Anadolu birçok farklı medeniyetin kalıntılarının olduğu bir yerdir. Anadolu’da yaşamış her medeniyetin bıraktığı kültürel mirası, geçmişten günümüze kendine ait kimliğini temsil eder. Günümüzde kentlerin gelişmesiyle birlikte bu kültür varlıklarının bir kısmı unutulmuş ya da doğal veya insan eliyle yok edilmektedir. Bu nedenle, bu değerli mirasın belgelendirilmesi; geleceğe yönelik koruma, muhafaza etme veya tanıtım için hayati öneme sahiptir. Bu gibi durumlarda, mühendislik ve mimari yapılarının tasarımın dijital ortama üç boyutlu (3B) olarak aktarılması gerekmektedir. Üç boyutlu modellerin elde edilmesini sağlayan ana teknoloji fotogrametridir. Tarihi eserlerin 3B modellerle belgeleme üretiminde yüksek doğruluk, düşük maliyet ve görece daha az zaman harcanan yöntemleri bulmaya çalışmak fotogrametrinin bir çalışma alanıdır. Ancak genel olarak çalışmalar tarihi eserlerin dış mimarileriyle ilgilenmiş içyapı unsurları ihmal edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada camilerin içyapılarındaki en önemli unsurlardan olan minberlerin yakın resim fotogrametrisi yöntemiyle belgelenmeye çalışılmaktadır. Çalışma sırasında minberin yersel olarak fotoğrafları çekilmiş ve jeodezik yöntemler kullanılarak kontrol noktaları ölçülmüştür. Minberin 3B modeli çizilmiş ve 3B model ile cephelerinden alınan ölçüm ve koordinatlar karşılaştırılarak doğruluk analizi yapılmıştır.

Eco-Sustainable Methods for Local Conservation of Built Heritage in Sistan’s Castles

Built heritage has an important role in the development of the global tourism industry. Therefore, appropriate conservation methods are required to support cultural identities and the tourism industry. Within the Sistan region of Iran, there are a number of built heritage assets (such as castles) that were constructed in different periods of history. Due to climatic conditions, management issues, and unemployment issues, ineffective conservation measures have been implemented for these types of built heritage assets. Therefore, special conservation methods are required to address different performance issues. This study offers practical solutions for the conservation of Sistan’s castles. An eco-sustainable model is proposed as a method to plan appropriate conservation interventions that consider economical, ecological, and labor-friendly characteristics of sustainability. We demonstrate that this approach to architectural conservation is responsive to local constraints and can be compatible with local requirements.
