Herstellung und antivirale Wirksamkeit von Polyacrylsäure und Polymethacrylsäure

Abstract: The antiviral activity of a number of fractions of poly(acry1ic acid)s and poly(methacry1ic acid)s with different tacticities, different molecular weights and molecular weight distributions has been investigated. Isotactic poly(acry1ic acid)s are essentially more antiviral active in the whole area of efficacy than the atactic ones. Independent of the tacticity poly(acry1ic acid)s with molecular weights smaller than 5000 show no significant effects, polymers with molecular weights greater than 25000 are toxic i… Show more

“…The M n s were in the 4,600 -10,700 range, and polydispersity indices (M w /M n ) fell between 1.5 and 2.7. Ottenbrite et al 42 reported that optimum antitumor activity can be obtained with average molecular weights ranging from 10,000 to 30,000, depending on the polymer. The average molecular weights of the synthesized polymers were in a reasonable range to exhibit the antitumor activity.…”

“…Indeed, even fully synthetic macromolecules, which do not contain any peptide, nucleotide, or saccharide units, were recognized for their therapeutic activity already in 70s [ 38,39 ] and from this time polymer materials were recognized also as potential drug‐free therapeutics for overcoming multidrug resistance [ 40 ] or in the antibacterial treatment. [ 41 ] In the following chapters, the various approaches are described in detail and the macromolecular systems acting as therapeutics themselves together with macromolecules decorated by the biorecognition ligands are reviewed thoroughly.…”

“…Polyelectrolytes stimulate interferon production in cells and living organisms [3,4]. Stereochemistry may have an impact on activity: isotactic poly(acrylic acid) possesses antiviral properties whereas atactic poly(acrylic acid) does not [5]. …”
