“…However, those scaffolds could function as 3-dimensional network preforms for polymer infiltration and preparation of double-network composite blocks for CAD-CAM. Polymer-based composites with interpenetrating phases, which are characterized by porous 3-dimensional ceramic scaffolds infiltrated by a polymer matrix, have recently drawn attention in the literature and shown promising results (He and Swain 2011;Coldea et al 2013;Nguyen et al 2013;Coldea et al 2014;Della Bona et al 2014;Nguyen et al 2014;Okada et al 2014;Coldea et al 2015). However, the use of crystalline nonsilicate particles has not yet been tested for the development of such materials.…”

“…When zirconia implants were restored with veneered zirconia crowns, chipping fractures were recorded 7) , indicating stresses higher than the strength of the veneering ceramic. A monolithic crown material with a low modulus of elasticity 8) might compensate the ancylotic connection between implant and bone as well as the high modulus of elasticity of the implant material. This might reduce the total load on the implant and surrounding bone.…”

“…Regarding the Weibull modulus, all of the materials demonstrated relatively high values, indicating high reliability, with the FC material having the highest modulus. Coldea et al 21 measured the strength degradation of a range of dental CAD-CAM ceramic materials and found an initial flexural strength of 152 MPa and modulus of elasticity of 35.48 GPa for the PICN material. These values are approximately 18% and 23% higher than the values found in this study.…”

“…However, the modulus of elasticity was determined by the impulse excitation of vibration technique. 21 The flexural strength test protocol had its limitations too. The length of the test bars could not conform to ISO 6872 because of the limiting size of the commercially available CAD-CAM blocks.…”
