Heterocyclic Corrosion Inhibitors for J55 Steel in a Sweet Corrosive Medium

Abstract: The inhibitory effect of two heterocyclic porphyrin compounds, specifically 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)-21 H ,23 H -porphyrin palladium(II) (PF-1) and 4,4′,4″,4‴-(porphyrin-5,10,15,20-tetrayl)tetrakis(benzoic acid) (PF-2), was studied in a sweet corrosion environment (3.5 wt % NaCl + CO 2 ) on J55 steel by means of weight loss and electrochemical methods. Surface changes were studied using contact angle, scanning electrochemical mi… Show more

“…The role of the counter anions (MBr 2 Cl 2 ) −2 in the adsorption of the prepared complex is an important factor, as shown in Scheme 1 . 75 The positively charged carbon steel surface becomes negatively charged through the adsorption of counter anions (MBr 2 Cl 2 ) −2 . Consequently, electrostatic attraction occurs between the positive charge on the two quaternary nitrogen atoms (N + ) and the negative carbon steel surface to form a protective layer on the metal surface where the anions are sandwiched between the positively charged part on the complex and the metal surface.…”

“…Figure 13a has been illustrated SEM image of polished MS with comparatively smooth surface, MS surface after inundation in 1.0 M HCl solution has been drastically damaged Figure 13b, in the existence of 300 ppm of the Chicoriumintybus extract, surface has been remarkably advanced Figure 13c. This advance in surface morphology is a sign of the protecting layer creation of the Chicoriumintybus extract on the MS surface that one is responsible for inhibition and reduction in the corrosion rate [52].…”

“…Tafel curves were obtained using a scan rate of 1 mV s –1 between a potential of −300 and +300 mV. Inhibition efficiency (Tafel %) was evaluated using the following expression 50 50 50 where I corr blank and I corr inh are the corrosion current density values without and with inhibitor, respectively. The experiments were repeated three times to ensure the quality reproducibility of the electrochemical results.…”
