Heterocyclic Surfactants and Their Applications in Cosmetics

Abstract: Surfactants are compounds with unique properties such as low toxicity, functionality under extreme conditions, and biologically degradable nature. The diversity of these molecules supports their potential application in the formulation of cosmetic products. Various functional properties of surfactants e. g. cleansing, foaming, solubilizing, wetting, emulsifying, thickening, antimicrobial effects etc are utilized for preparing beautifying agents for skin, hair, nail and other body parts. Presence of heterocycli… Show more

“…Non-ionic surfactants (Cortés et al 2021) which are widely used in industries such as personal care (Guin et al 2022), household products (Munir et al 2014), and agrochemicals (Fouquet et al 2017) are valued for their surface properties like emulsification, wetting, and dispersion (Rosen M. J. 2004).…”

“…The vital interest of the pharmaceutical [3,[7][8][9][10] and agrochemical [2,11] industries in heterocycles is associated with their occurrence in nature and participation in key metabolic processes of living organisms, while the myriad of industrially used heterocyclic structures are of synthetic origin. The applications of heterocyclic compounds include the production of herbicides, [12,13] fungicides, [14][15][16] photostabilizers, [17] cosmetics, [18] polymers, [4,19] dyes, [20,21] anti-corrosive agents, [22,23] and sensitizers. [24,25] Functionalized heterocycles are privileged structural motifs in natural and synthetic products, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals.…”

“…It is because of their tunable properties, which enhance the scope of surfactant study and application (Polarz et al, 2018). This gives researchers an option to get desirable properties by changing head groups, tail length, counter‐ion, spacers and so forth (Guin et al, 2022; Zhou & Wang, 2020).…”
