Heterogeneity of alkaline lacustrine source rocks of the lower Permian Fengcheng Formation in the Mahu Sag, Junggar Basin, northwestern China

Abstract: The alkaline lacustrine source rocks in the lower Permian Fengcheng Formation in the Mahu Sag, Junggar Basin, China, exhibit significant heterogeneity. However, most previous studies have focused on the vertical variability of the source rocks, and the lateral variability is poorly understood. This study investigated recently drilled samples of the Fengcheng Formation in the Manan area to assess the lateral variability of the source rocks. The geochemical characteristics of the Fengcheng Formation source rocks… Show more

Fengcheng Formation can be further divided into the first section (P1f1), the second section (P1f2), and the third section (P1f3) from bottom to top (Figure 1d) [3,[21][22][23]. During the sedimentary period of the Early Permian Fengcheng Formation, Mahu Sag had a sedimentary environment of an alkaline lake [21,24,25], and Fengcheng Formation extensively developed dolomitic rocks [26][27][28].…”
