Heterogeneous multi-channel neighbor discovery formobile sensing applications

Abstract: Neighbor discovery is of paramount importance in mobile sensing applications that rely heavily on data timely collected and shared among nearby users. Guaranteed discovery with bounded latency and supporting heterogenous duty cycles to provide fine-grained control of energy conservation levels are among the most crucial requirements in the design of efficient neighbor discovery protocols. While simultaneously satisfying these two requirements is non-trivial, the situation is exacerbated if the operating freque… Show more

“…Second, if this situation continues, it makes the entire network partitioned or disconnected. A variety of asynchronous neighbor discovery protocols have been developed in order to address a neighbor discovery problem [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. In this section, we present an asynchronous neighbor discovery protocol we proposed called BAND in the previous paper [25].…”

“…Work in [8,17,19,20,28,30,41,43] addresses the closely-related problem of rendezvous between two CR nodes. Intuitively, the rendezvous problem between two nodes involves ensuring that the two nodes tune to the same channel at the same time, which is necessary for nodes to discover each other.…”

“…Mobile sensing applications, ranging from mobile social networking to proximity-based gaming, involve collection and sharing of data among nearby users. The success of these applications depends on neighborhood information [20]. Neighbor discovery is extremely important in Underwater Acoustic (UWA) Networks and needs to be done frequently because nodes may move proactively due to the unpredictable underwater currents [68].…”

“…In addition, by extending Diff-Code to ADiff-Code, they try to deal with asymmetric neighbor discovery. In [18], they formulate a heterogeneous multi-channel neighbor discovery problem and establish a theoretical framework of the problem. Furthermore, they propose a novel multi-channel discovery protocol called Mc-Dis (Multi-channel Discovery).…”
