Abstract:The hydrogenation of nitro compounds to their corresponding amines is developed using a heterogeneous and recyclable catalyst (V 2 O 5 /TiO 2 ) under irradiation of blue LED (9 W) at ambient temperature. Hydrazine hydrate is used as a reductant and ethanol is used as a solvent, facilitating green, sustainable, low-cost production. The synthesis of 32 (hetero)arylamines and their pharmaceutically relevant molecules (five) are described. Significant features of the protocol include catalyst recyclability, green … Show more
“…In recent years, photocatalysis 6 ( e.g. , metal complexes, dyes and semiconductors) has gradually become an efficient and powerful alternative approach for the reduction of nitroarenes to functionalized anilines (Scheme 1b).…”
An efficient visible-light-induced iron-catalyzed reduction of nitroarenes to anilines proceeds with photosensitizer-free conditions, and features good to excellent yields and broad functional group tolerance.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
