Hexaferrocenium tri[hexa(isothiocyanato)iron(III)] trihydroxonium complex as a new DNA intercalator for electrochemical DNA biosensor

Abstract: Ferrocene or ferrocenium has been widely studied in the field of organometallic complexes because of its stable thermodynamic, kinetic and redox properties. Novel hexaferrocenium tri[hexa(isothiocyanato)iron(III)]trihydroxonium (HexaFc) complex was the product from the reaction of ferrocene, maleic acid and ammonium thiocyanate and was confirmed by elemental analysis CHNS, FTIR and single crystal X-ray crystallography. In this study, HexaFc was used for the first time as an electroactive indicator for porcine … Show more

“…Hyperchromicity is considered one of the important evaluators for the strength of DNA binding interaction, it represents the effect of ligand binding on DNA molecule compaction as a result of electrostatic interaction [ 64 ]. The hyperchromicity percentage was calculated according to the following equation [ 65 ] [ 66 ]: where , ε f , ε b correspond to the extinction coefficients of the free and bound forms of the complex. All parameters were calculated for the studied analytes at different potassium chloride concentrations in accordance the above-mentioned equations and summarized in Table 2…”

“…Hyperchromism arises from the damage to the double helix structure of the DNA, which leads to forming its single-stranded. [34][35][36] Hypochromism occurs because of the contraction of DNA in the helix axis. It also arises from the conformational changes of DNA [37,38].…”
