The karst aquifer located in the Environmental Protection Area of Lagoa Santa, Minas Gerais, Brazil, exhibits the characteristic morphological features of an evolved karst environment, including large caves, sinkholes, and copious springs. Understanding the hydrogeological characteristics of karst aquifers is crucial for effective management of public resources and prevention of contamination, as these aquifers are highly vulnerable, making it essential to identify and mitigate potential risks. Given the ongoing economic and population growth in this region, the assessment of the hydrogeological parameters that control the dynamics of local flow becomes relevant for the proper evaluation of hydrogeological models and the management of water resources. Four classical pumping test analysis methods were compared to quantify the flow and storativity of the aquifer: Theis (1935), Neuman (1972), Moench (1984), and Agarwal (1980). In addition, indirect estimation methods based on the identification of capture zones and the analysis of recession curves of water courses were employed, since these approaches are cheaper and easier to apply in areas with low information. The statistical analysis of the results suggests that classical solutions can be applied to the karst aquifer to estimate hydrogeological parameters, apart from the Storage Coefficient obtained using the Neuman method. In general, the indirect estimation methods tend to produce values that are consistent with those obtained through direct methods, albeit with some reservations. The transmissivity values obtained from the pumping tests were approximately 3.0 × 10−4 m2/s, while the storage coefficient is estimated to be around 3.7 × 10−3. The indirect estimation methods yield transmissivity values of about 1.8 × 10−4 m2/s using the capture zone method, and storage coefficient values of 4.0 × 10−3 and 3.9 × 10−2 using recession curve analysis.

A área de estudo abarca a totalidade da região denominada de APA Carste de Lagoa Santa e seus entornos, totalizando 505 km² e distando 35 km a norte de Belo Horizonte. A área tem sido alvo de vários empreendimentos que preveem um aumento pela exploração e consumo de água. Diante deste crescimento e da fragilidade do sistema cárstico, torna-se de fundamental importância o entendimento dos parâmetros hidrodinâmicos de forma a conhecer as características desse sistema aquífero. Geologicamente, a região é representada pelas rochas carbonáticas e metapelíticas do Grupo Bambuí, em um contexto local de intensa deformação rúptil, que regem o sentido de fluxo da água subterrânea, de oeste para leste, e determinam as características dos parâmetros hidrodinâmicos. O objetivo do trabalho foi obter os valores de condutividade hidráulica (K), transmissividade (T) e coeficiente de armazenamento (S) pela avaliação de ensaios de recuperação utilizando os métodos de Hvorslev, Bower e Rice e Cooper-Bredehoeft-Papadopulos. Foram utilizadas aplicações de fórmulas matemáticas de Hvorslev para obtenção de K e T, e avaliação do sistema de fraturas a partir de equações matemáticas para obtenção de k. Para a avaliação dos métodos propostos, foram analisados 99 ensaios de recuperação e 1163 fraturas a fim de avaliar a condutividade hidráulica. Os resultados foram comparados de modo a examinar o método mais representativo para o sistema cárstico-fissural e sua representatividade na região. Os três métodos clássicos apresentaram valores parecidos para K e T, sendo o valor modal do armazenamento (10-4) obtido pelo método de Cooper, Bredehoef e Papadopulos. O método matemático de Snow se mostrou mais eficiente para o cálculo de K em subsuperfície (10-3 m/s) estando próximo dos valores encontrados por ensaios de traçadores corantes por outros autores, possibilitando diferenciar os níveis verticais de condutividade hidráulica nesse sistema.

Data acquisition by automatic monitoring allows obtaining a large number of data, supporting a better understanding of the monitored region. The use of automated discharge measurement enables a better understanding of floods, the relationship between surface and groundwater flow rate values, and aquifer recharge. However, automatic instruments processing and storage may fail, leading to missing values in some intervals of the recorded time series. These missing values may be replaced by estimates from the regional flow rate or other statistical approximations. For evolved karst systems, however, those techniques may not be adequate due to their rapid discharge responses to rainfall. The aim of this paper is to develop a method able to estimate fluviometric monitoring missing values, based on time series correlation for correlated data. These estimates were obtained from automated monitoring through pressure transducers in 6 streams in a region of approximately 505 km 2 , predominantly covered by the carbonate and metapellitic Neoproterozoic rocks of the Bambuí Group. The proposed method is composed of four sequential steps: computing the streamflow-data autocorrelation and the cross-correlation of pluviometry with the flow rate; calculating the precipitation fraction that directly contributes to the discharge; fitting of a linear relationship between pluviometry and the monitored daily discharge, to calculate discharge values on days when automatic measurements failed; and approximation of the calculated and monitored discharge values, using a number of statistical criteria. The results show the maturity of the karst aquifer system, with fast groundwater flow and low storage, well-calibrated stage-discharge rating curves for the 2016/2017 hydrological year and that the values estimated by proposed methodology present a deviation of less than 9% over the monitored data.
