Hierarchical chirality expression of gemini surfactant aggregates via equilibrium between chiral nucleotide and nonchiral mono‐anions

Abstract: The assembling behaviors of nonchiral dicationic amphiphilic molecules (gemini) in the presence of the mixture of chiral anionic nucleotides and nonchiral anions are investigated. We demonstrate that subtle balance of various physico‐chemical parameters and the competition between chiral and nonchiral anions at the interface of gemini assemblies influences the expression of molecular chirality at the micrometer scale through the hierarchical molecular assembly.

“…Nevertheless there have been efforts to decipher the mechanism of formation of such morphological structures both experimentally [30,42,[48][49][50] and theoretically. [51][52][53][54][55][56] Understandably, self-assembled structures having micrometer sized dimensions can be observed via OM and there are only a few such examples reported thus far-a hybrid vesicle derived from phospatidylcholine, [57] a tubular structure transforming irreversibly to 1D tape obtained from the self-assembly of 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid and geraniol, [58] the first report of tubule, [31] gemini surfactants, [103] nucleoamphiphiles [104] and a C 3 symmetric tris-amide [105] were studied under OM.…”
