Hierarchical ZIF-8 toward Immobilizing Burkholderia cepacia Lipase for Application in Biodiesel Preparation

Abstract: A hierarchical mesoporous zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) was processed based on cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a morphological regulating agent and amino acid (l-histidine) as assisting template agent. Burkholderia cepacia lipase (BCL) was successfully immobilized by ZIF-8 as the carrier via an adsorption method (BCL-ZIF-8). The immobilized lipase (BCL) showed utmost activity recovery up to 1279%, a 12-fold boost in its free counterpart. BCL-ZIF-8 was used as a biocatalyst in the transesterif… Show more

“…Figure 1 shows the XRD spectra of Ag/H-ZIF-8 and related materials. Obviously, the typical diffraction peaks of as-synthesized H-ZIF-8 (Figure 1 curve b) matches well with those of simulated (Figure 1 curve a) and reported ones [14,20,21]. Figure 1 curve c and e are the X-ray diffraction patterns of H-ZIF-8 composites decorated with Ag + and Ag NPs, respectively.…”

“…Hierarchical ZIF-8 was synthesized based on a previously reported method with a minor modification [14]. Typically, a solution A was firstly prepared by mixing 1.88 g of Zn(NO 3 )·6H 2 O, 1.27 g CTAB and 2.14 g of histidine in 125 mL of water.…”

“…The enzyme retained 84.7% of its initial activity after 10 repeated cycles [15]. By using hierarchical mesoporous (ZIF-8) to immobilize Burkholderia cepacia lipase (BCL) into surface adsorption the conversion of transesterfiction reaction 93.4% yield, when the optimum conditions for biodiesel production were transesterification time 12 h with three-step addition of alcohol at 4 h intervals and reaction temperature 40 • C. There was no significant drop in conversion yield relative to original activity for BCL-ZIF-8 when continuously reused for eight cycles [174].…”

“…The common enzymatic strategies in immobilization mainly comprised entrapping and adsorption that is physical strategy, which adsorbent or enter the enzyme into the carrier without to need for chemicals materials, conversely, a chemical strategy included cross-linking and covalent bonding which are used chemical substances. [17]. Hence, covalent bonding has drawn increasing attention because it has the benefit of strong interactions between the enzyme and the carrier which prevent enzyme leakage [18].…”
