Hierarchically structured carbon nanotube–polyaniline nanobrushes for corrosion protection over a wide pH range

Abstract: Carbon nanotube-polyaniline brush-like nanostructures have been successfully synthesized through in situ oxidative polymerization of aniline on the surface of carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The diameter of the resultant tubular nanobrushes is dependent on the mass ratio of c-MWNTs to aniline. The as-designed carbon nanotube-polyaniline nanobrushes exhibit superior electroactivity not only in acidic, but also in neutral and alkaline environments. The excellent anticorrosion performance has been achi… Show more

“…Many scholars have made much meaningful works. Qiu et al in our group prepared the novel carbon nanotube–PANI nanobrushes and found the composite extending the anticorrosion protection of polyaniline (PANI) to a wider range of pH environments . Xu and coworkers synthesized the Fe 3 O 4 /PANI microspheres through an in situ polymerization route, and they found Fe 3 O 4 /PANI have enhanced microwave absorption than both the Fe 3 O 4 microspheres and PANI, where a maximum reflection loss of −37.4 dB at 15.4 GHz has reached from the sample with a PANI shell thickness of 100 nm .…”

Qiu et al in our group prepared the novel carbon nanotube-PANI nanobrushes and found the composite extending the anticorrosion protection of polyaniline (PANI) to a wider range of pH environments [26]. Xu In this article, we expect to build graphene, Fe 3 O 4 , and PANI ternary nanocomposites with redox activity in wider pH environment, large specific surface area and easy to disperse, excellent microwave-absorbing performance and to study the synthesis route and method with controllable the interface of nanocomposite, providing an effective way to develop the materials owning not only wave-absorbing but also anticorrosion properties.…”

“…Qiu and coworkers [86] synthesized carbon nanotubepolyaniline (c-PANI) by in situ oxidative polymerization of aniline on the surface of MWCNTs. Analyses showed that diameter of the nanobrushes depends on the mass ratio of aniline and MWCNTs.…”

“…4 Zhang and Zhu found that polyaniline functionalized carbon nanotubes work as signicant corrosion barrier in 3.5% NaCl medium, these nanotubes showing strong physisorption on metal alloy. 5 Ahmad and Kashifa reported corrosion inhibition in 3.5% HCl medium of mild steel coated by poly-ortho-toluedine nanoparticles loaded polyurethane and castor oil-polyurethane composite. 6 The bare mild steel corroded as compared with composite coated mild steel because protective inhibitor lm was not formed on the mild steel surface.…”
