Hierarchy of Design Needs for Enabling Reverse Logistics Activities: A Design for Reverse Logistics Approach

Abstract

In the current global context marked by rampant consumption, excessive waste disposal, and dwindling natural resources, Reverse Logistics emerges as a viable solution. This research adopts a Design for Reverse Logistics approach to identify essential Design Needs associated with Reverse Logistics, contributing to sustainable product development methodologies. Its primary objective is to enhance the efficiency of RL activities and processes. This exploratory research combines bibliographic analysis and surveys in a qualitative-quantitative approach, drawing insights from experts in Reverse Logistics, Circular Economy, and Sustainable Design. To ensure the reliability of our findings, we utilize Cronbach's Alpha coefficient and apply the TOPSIS multicriteria decision support analysis method for data processing. The outcome of expert analysis is a hierarchical arrangement of Design Needs, providing valuable recommendations for future research. In summary, this research delves into the intricacies of Reverse Logistics, aiming to address the pressing global issues of resource scarcity and unsustainable consumption. By identifying critical Design Needs, it offers a pathway towards more sustainable product development practices in an increasingly resource-constrained world.
