Human development has ushered in an era of converging crises: climate change, ecological destruction, disease, pollution, and socioeconomic inequality. This review synthesizes the breadth of these interwoven emergencies and underscores the urgent need for comprehensive, integrated action. Propelled by imperialism, extractive capitalism, and a surging population, we are speeding past Earth's material limits, destroying critical ecosystems, and triggering irreversible changes in biophysical systems that underpin the Holocene climatic stability which fostered human civilization. The consequences of these actions are disproportionately borne by vulnerable populations, further entrenching global inequities. Marine and terrestrial biomes face critical tipping points, while escalating challenges to food and water access foreshadow a bleak outlook for global security. Against this backdrop of Earth at risk, we call for a global response centered on urgent decarbonization, fostering reciprocity with nature, and implementing regenerative practices in natural resource management. We call for the elimination of detrimental subsidies, promotion of equitable human development, and transformative financial support for lower income nations. A critical paradigm shift must occur that replaces exploitative, wealth-oriented capitalism with an economic model that prioritizes sustainability, resilience, and justice. We advocate a global cultural shift that elevates kinship with nature and communal well-being, underpinned by the recognition of Earth’s finite resources and the interconnectedness of its inhabitants. The imperative is clear: to navigate away from this precipice, we must collectively harness political will, economic resources, and societal values to steer toward a future where human progress does not come at the cost of ecological integrity and social equity.

I Consume, Therefore I Am? Hyperconsumption Behavior: Scale Development and Validation

Social and material models consider hyperconsumption to be an unsustainable practice of consumer behavior that is responsible for the considerable damage inflicted upon the planet. The primary objective of this research study was to develop and validate a novel measurement scale to assess hyperconsumption behavior (HB) from a consumer’s point of view. Based on the literature on measurement theory, an HB scale was developed and validated over three studies. The first study consisted of item development, while the second study focused on exploring and confirming the factor structure of the scale. The investigations revealed that hyperconsumption behavior was a first-order construct with four underlying dimensions: shopping control (food); perceived repair benefits; possession of a large amount of goods; and experiential consumption. The third study assessed the nomological validity of the proposed scale by testing its association with two relevant scales of materialism and sustainable purchase behavior.

Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management states that waste management needs to be carried out in a comprehensive and integrated manner from upstream to downstream in order to have a positive impact on the economy, public health, and the environment. Garbage has become a big issue on a national scale without good rules and guidelines. The purpose of this study is to provide SOPs in a circular economy with a service science perspective as a growth strategy for NYAMPIH, a waste logistics management start-up. The object of research is food and beverage businesses in Bandung, such as coffee shops, restaurants, and hotels. This study uses a qualitative approach by observing and interviewing a total of 8 respondents who have the position of manager and business cleaning division. The primary data used is NYAMPIH operations with company documents and literature reviews as well as summaries and thoughts from various sources to support this research. The results of this study are that the F&B sector is still experiencing difficulties in managing its waste because there are no regulations or guidelines that can be implemented properly by the industry due to the limited authority given and no responsibility given from superiors, the waste management and selection processes are not supported by infrastructure now. This research has implications for creating a circular economy scheme for organic and non-organic waste that results in more sustainable economic growth.
