High diversity of culturable Burkholderia species associated with sugarcane

Abstract: Sugarcane is an important crop around the world. Burkholderia genus has emerged as an important plant associated bacteria in the last years. In this study, the occurrence of Burkholderia species associated with two sugarcane varieties cultivated in Mexico was assessed. Burkholderia species were isolated with and without diazotrophs enrichment from sugarcane. Burkholderia strains were identified using a semi-selective set of primers and clustered by restriction analysis of 16S rRNA. The isolates were characteri… Show more

“…A number of Burkholderia species have been reported to produce IAA, as measured by the Salkowski test, with or without the addition of tryptophan (Castro-González et al 2011;de Oliveira-Langatti et al 2014;Naveed et al 2014). One publication describes the identification of IAA not only by the Salkowski test but also by chromatography (Singh et al 2013), although it should be noted that the species in this particular study was B. cepacia RRE25.…”

“…T were used to probe plant-associated diazotrophic (Perin et al 2006) or non-diazotrophic Burkholderia species in the PBE cluster (Castro-González et al 2011), the results of both PCR and Southern hybridization studies were negative (Perin et al 2006). Similarly, Angus et al (2014) analyzed the genomes of several Burkholderia species using functional and genomic methods to determine whether virulence determinants could be found in Group A species.…”

“…Also, because many bacteria promote growth via mechanisms other than nitrogen fixation, we examined whether B. tuberum STM678 T and three additional non-nodulating, but nitrogen-fixing Burkholderia species were able to secrete siderophores and to solubilize phosphate, two common mechanisms of plant growth promotion. Although B. unamae has already been shown to have many plant growth-promoting activities (Caballero-Mellado et al 2007;Castro-González et al 2011), we included it in our analysis for comparison.…”

“…dapat berada di xylem, substomatal chamber dan bagian aerial tanaman anggur melalui aliran transpirasi (Compant et al, 2005). Burkholderia cepacia complex dilaporkan ditemukan pada akar dan batang tebu (Gonzalez et al, 2011). Isolat B2 sekerabat dengan Micrococcus luteus dengan tingkat kemiripan 98% (Gambar 9).…”
