High Efficiency Covering Technology for Covered Yarn Production: Controlling the Spandex Yarn Draw Ratio

Abstract: This paper proposes a new covered yarn system in which the tension of spandex elastic yarn drawing is controlled. By analysing the relationship between the draw ratio and yarn tension, it was verified that the new tension controlled drawing system is feasible and results in yarns of superior quality and process stability.

“…The elastane draw ratio, denoted as Factor A, was encoded by DES and presented in Table 2. The selection of the draw ratios for the elastane lament was determined in accordance with industry practice and relevant literature (Feng et al, 2020). Additionally, DES assigned different yarn properties as distinct responses, labeled as Y 1 , Y 2 , Y 3 , Y 4 and Y 5, as shown in Table 3.…”

“…C o vered yarn is outer cover yarn that is wrapped on inner corn yarn in a spiral winding manner to form a new yarn with better performance [1][2]. The covered yarn produced by this new technology generally possesses a higher strength, richer appearance, and fl uffi er structure with less hairiness [3][4][5].…”

“…The cross-wound package is widely used in double twisters, covering machines, and other equipment. 10 However, friction exists between the groove drum and the wound package in process of the formation, which increases the hairiness of the wound package in the winding process 11 and affects the yarn quality and the production environment of the equipment. Besides, there are problems such as yarn folding and hard edge in the process of the cross-wound package. The precision wound package means that each yarn layer is closely arranged in the same direction, which is used in the processes of re-winding, and doubling.…”
