High-energy resummation of direct photon production at hadronic colliders

Abstract: Direct photon production is an important process at hadron colliders, being relevant both for precision measurement of the gluon density, and as background to Higgs and other new physics searches. Here we explore the implications of recently derived results for high energy resummation of direct photon production for the interpretation of measurements at the Tevatron and the LHC. The effects of resummation are compared to various sources of theoretical uncertainties like PDFs and scale variations. We show how t… Show more

“…The resummation relies on the resummation of the splitting function, which must then be combined with a computation of the hard cross-section with incoming off-shell gluons. Such calculations have been made for a range of processes: heavy quark production [100,101,107,108], DIS structure functions [103,109,110], Drell-Yan production [111,112], direct photon production [113,114] and Higgs production [115][116][117]. The use of these expressions to resum coefficient functions at fixed coupling is straightforward, but becomes more complicated when the coupling runs, due to the presence of anti-collinear singularities.…”

“…The resummation of partonic coefficient functions is based on the so-called k t -factorization theorem [62,[73][74][75][76][77][78][79] and it is known to LLx for an increasing number of cross-sections and distributions [80][81][82][83][84][85][86]. Its generalization to rapidity distributions was carried out in Refs [79], where it was applied to the case of Higgs production in gluon fusion.…”

“…Because we are interested in the Q T spectrum, we find more useful to organize the calculation of the phase-space integrals following the case of direct photon production [85,97]. Therefore, we use the first δ function in Eq.…”
