High fastness heterocyclic azo disperse dyes bearing ester functions

Abstract: Blue monoazo disperse dyes bearing carboxylic acid ester functions have been synthesised from thiophene diazo components in the search for colorants of high fastness and reduced environmental impact. The colour properties of the dyes in solution and on polyester, as well as the fastness of the dyes when applied to polyester, are examined and rationalised in terms of dye structure.

“…Researchers from both colorant manufacturers and academic organizations have been working on dyes and pigments to develop fast coloring materials that are physically unresponsive and chemically inert when applied to a substrate [56]. Thermochromic organic colorants are successfully applied in both textile and non-textile application for producing novel coloration effects.…”

“…The main drawback is that the activation temperature of the majority of these materials lies typically in the range of 10 o -20 o C which is well above the room temperature for cold countries and below the room temperature for hot countries, so thermochromic effects on textiles is not produced properly. But, by using thermochromic materials of liquid crystalline type, it is possible to change the appearance of the color over narrow temperature ranges of 5-15 o C and detect any variation in temperature, < 1 o C [56]. One Japanese company named Pilot Ink Co. is a leading company working on thermochromic materials for many years and has filed a significant number of patents.…”

“…[9][10][11][12] Heterocyclic diazo compounds, like 2amino-6-nitrobenzothiazole, 2-aminothiazoles, 2-amino-5nitrothiazole and 3,5-dinitro-2-aminothiophene, that can give polyester bers dark colors are crucial in the synthesis of disperse dyes. [13][14][15][16] Disperse dyes that are derived from 3-amino-5-nitro [2,1] benzisothiazole can produce darker colors compared to the above-mentioned heterocyclic dyes, which promoted the application of 3-amino-5-nitro [2,1] benzisothiazole in the synthesis of blue disperse dyes as substitutes for the anthraquinone disperse dyes in blue hues. 17,18 Dyes synthesized from 3-amino-5-nitrobenzoisothiazole also exhibited good fastness, including sublimation fastness and light fastness.…”

“…There has been lot of research on the synthesis, spectroscopic properties and applications of these dyes in recent years. [6][7][8][9][10][11] 1,2,3-Triazoles also possess a number of desirable features in the context of medicinal chemistry and industrial applications. They are stable to acidic/basic hydrolysis, reductive/oxidative conditions, and resistant to metabolic degradation.…”
