High Gain Rectangular Broad Band Microstrip Antenna With Embedded Negative Capacitor and Chip Resistor

Abstract: Abstract-Various communication systems require single radiating element operating in wide band. In this paper, a novel active integrated single microstrip antenna is proposed and its radiation pattern and gain performance is optimized with analysis. The reactive loading is provided by a negative capacitor section embedded within the patch. The active negative capacitor is made of a field-effect transistor that exhibits negative resistance as well as capacitance. It can, therefore, compensate the loss of an ind… Show more

“…The antennas with dual polarization characteristic have also been reported [11][12][13]. Moreover, the gain enhancement researches have also been reported [14][15][16][17][18][19]. Therefore, there are many reports for dual polarization or gain enhancement individually.…”

“…However, most of the S-DMB antennas in published papers [4][5][6][7][8] only have receiving or transmitting function. Microstrip antennas [7,[9][10][11][12][13] usually have an important advantage of being low profile, low cost and easy fabrication. Biconical antenna [14][15][16][17] is connected with a SMA connector to excite a TEM mode, resulting in the uniform radiation pattern in the H-plane.…”

“…However, in these techniques no concrete mathematical reasoning is provided in the literature. Moreover, all these techniques suffer from the problem of poor radiation characteristics, complexity and enlarged element size as reported in [10].…”

“…Many other techniques include slot-loading [6], chip loading [7], stacked shorted patch [8], using parasitic patches [9]. A new design of the microstrip patch with reactive load leads to new configuration is proposed in [10]. Using negative capacitor with a chip resistor incorporated in rectangular microstrip antenna around 4.23% bandwidth [10, Table 3] is obtained.…”
