High HIF-1α expression genotypes in oral lichen planus

Abstract: These results, in conjunction with previous studies, suggest that HIF-1α may play important roles in the chronicity of oral mucosa lesions of OLP patients. Taken together, we suggest that HIF-1α polymorphisms enhance its target genes, thereby altering the microenvironment and supporting sequential release of inflammatory mediators or cellular events in OLP. It appears unlikely that inhibition of a single proinflammatory mediator will prove useful in clinical practice, but several ways to reprogram mediators en… Show more

“…The genetic polymorphism of the HIF1α gene affects the severity and outcome of infectious and inflammatory diseases. For example, it is established that the polymorphism of the gene HIF1α (1772T allele), which determines its high level of expression, is a risk factor for the development of abdominal aortic aneurysm and oral lichen planus 23,24. The other polymorphic HIF-1α rs12434439 GG genotype plays a protective role for rheumatoid arthritis development,25 but gene polymorphism HIF-1α rs11549467 is associated with the risk of COPD 26…”

“…Subsequently, DNA was washed to remove impurities and was eluted in TE buffer, as previously described (Guimaraes et al 2007 ). DNA from paraffin embedded tissue was extracted as previously described (Fraga et al 2012 ; de Carvalho Fraga et al 2013 ).…”

“…This fact was evidenced [ 85 ] after the detection of the 582Ser allele (Pro/Ser heterozygotes) ratio in Polish weightlifters, which was significantly higher than in the control group. Nevertheless, a basic HIF-1α high expression level, provided by polymorphisms, can facilitate worse prognosis in some diseases, including tumors [ 81 , 86 , 87 , 88 , 89 ]. Tibetan-specific allelic variations in the EPAS1 gene ( HIF-2A ), regulating the physiological reactions to high-altitude hypoxia through the HIF signaling pathway to maintain the hemoglobin levels of Tibetan highlanders at near-sea level values, were revealed [ 90 ].…”

“…In experimental studies, according to the results of the survival time (the time before respiratory disturbances and signs of asphyxia appear) in an assessment under conditions of hypobaric hypoxia, animals are divided into tolerant and susceptible to oxygen deficiency. Humans are mostly divided into tolerant and susceptible groups according to their AMS and HAPE sensitivity [ 72 , 73 , 74 , 75 , 76 , 77 , 78 , 79 , 80 , 81 , 82 , 83 , 84 , 85 , 86 , 87 , 88 , 89 , 90 , 91 , 92 , 93 , 94 , 95 , 96 , 97 , 98 , 99 , 100 , 101 , 123 , 124 ].…”
