“…Antibiotic sensitivity tests revealed that colistin-resistant E. coli isolates have a highly resistance to sulfisoxazole; a moderate rate of resistance to ampicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline; and a low rate of resistance to cefuroxime, ceftazidime, cefepime, ceftriaxone, cefoxitin, aztreonam, ampicillin-sulbactam, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, gentamicin, kanamycin, ciprofloxacin, and levofloxacin. The colistin-resistant E. coli isolates displayed high resistance rates to antibiotics that are commonly used in veterinary medicine in Sichuan Province ( Ma et al, 2017 ; Zhang et al, 2021 ), including sulfisoxazole, ampicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline, and chloramphenicol. The antimicrobial resistance rates have reached to 30%, which may be due to the breadth of our sample or because of the generally high use of antibiotics in Sichuan Province.…”

“…Current measures have shown some effectiveness in preventing the presence of antibiotic resistant bacteria in animals and humans ( Tang et al, 2017 ). However, the prevalence of integrons as well as MGEs has been confirmed to be still high in China's poultry industry ( Mazhar et al, 2021 ; Zhang et al, 2021a ), potentially exacerbating the incidence of AMR. Hence, monitoring MGEs and integrons is essential for understanding the occurrence of AMR.…”

“…Among 165 E. coli strains isolated from duck farms in China's Sichuan province, 163 (98.8%) exhibited MDR. Most isolates revealed high resistance to ampicillin (95.8%), chloramphenicol (89.7%), and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (84.2%) [40]. These results indicate that controlling multi-drug resistance in Enterobacteriaceae in duck husbandry requires particular vigilance.…”

“…These resistance genes might be transferred from livestock to humans through the food chain. Due to the prevalence of waterfowl bacterial infections and the extensive use of antibiotics, the spreading of MDR Enterobacteriaceae containing MGEs has accelerated in duck farms and industry [40].…”
