“…In another study, 12 weeks (3 week −1 ) of descending stair walking (eccentric exercise for knee extensors) was more effective (− 40%) than ascending stair walking training (− 24%) at decreasing TNF-α levels in women (Chow et al 2020 ). While research on humans is limited, non-RET endurance training can precipitate decreased TNF-α levels, however, intensity matters, as 8 weeks (5 week −1 ) of HIIET was more effective than LICET in reducing TNF-α in mouse renal tissue (Leite et al 2021 ).…”

“…Regarding NF-κB, in the brain of mice with Parkinson’s disease, 5 weeks (5 week −1 ) of loaded ladder climbing (typical rodent concentric RET protocol) decreased NF-κB expression (Kim et al 2021 ). Moreover, 8 weeks (5 week −1 ) of HIIET was more effective than LICET in reducing NF-κB levels in mouse renal tissue after injury (Leite et al 2021 ). In humans, eccentric RET increased inflammation to a greater degree than equivalent concentric RET, however repeating the same session does not trigger the same inflammatory response.…”

“…Ten weeks of low-volume, high-intensity interval exercise could improve neutrophil and monocyte function and enhance innate immune system in sedentary adults ( Bartlett et al, 2017 ). Animal research also indicated that interval exercise training could reduce the inflammation induced by cisplatin nephrotoxicity and downregulate the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway ( Leite et al, 2021 ). In the present study, we verified that aerobic interval training produces similar anti-inflammatory effects for PM 2.5 -induced inflammation.…”

“…There are several animal studies indicating protective effects of exercise against cisplatin‐induced nephrotoxicity 104–106 . In a study focusing on the effects of exercise on cisplatin‐nephrotoxicity in rats, authors compared protocols employing low, medium, and high intensity exercise.…”

“…Compared to non‐exercising controls, all three training protocols showed protective effects against cisplatin‐induced renal injury and attenuated the increase in TNF‐α, IL‐1β, and IL‐6. However, effects were more robust with high‐intensity training and this was the only protocol effective in preventing negative changes in renal function 105 . The effects of exercise on nephrotoxicity in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy are yet to be evaluated 104 …”
