High penetration X-ray communication under physical shielding

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Modern industrial facilities urgently need effective wireless communication technology to monitor instruments and equipment, but electromagnetic interference and physical shielding often exist in these fields, thereby preventing traditional communication methods from working correctly. OBJECTIVE: As a special wireless optical communication technology, X-ray communication (XCOM) is expected to solve the problem of signal transmission under this extreme condition. Our goal was to prove the feasibilit… Show more

“…These studies built a solid foundation for XCOM development. In addition, Tang et al conducted a series of studies regarding XCOM, including the penetrative properties of X-rays [14], X-ray high frequency pulse emission characteristics [15], and collimating/ focusing optical systems [16]. The potential applications of XCOM in the Mars scenario [3,17] and during Earth reentry [18][19][20] were also studied.…”

“…XCOM has the advantages of high penetration, strong anti-interference ability, and wide transmission band, and the theoretical maximum transmission rate could reach 40 000 Tbps [5]. Given these distinctive advantages, XCOM is expected to solve the communication problems in blackout region, deepspace communication, and other fields [6]. According to the current x-ray source technology and XCOM's application environment, the x-ray source must be compact and consume low power, such as hot cathode x-ray source and photocathode x-ray source [7][8][9].…”
