High‐performance nanocomposites based on arcylonitrile‐butadiene rubber with fillers of different particle size: Mechanical and morphological studies

Abstract: Acrylonitrile‐butadiene rubber (NBR) nanocomposites with layered silicate (LS), calcium phosphate (CP), and titanium dioxide (TO) of different particle size were prepared in an open two‐roll mixing mill at different filler loading in presence of sulphur as vulcanizing agent. The layered silicate (LS) filled system showed outstanding enhancement in mechanical properties in comparison with nanocalcium phosphate (CP) and titanium dioxide (TO). The variations in properties can be attributed to the extent of interc… Show more

“…However, there are not many studies on the incorporation of the nanofillers by two‐roll milling process. The two‐roll mill mixing technique has become the promising method for fabricating polymer/clay nanocomposites because of the many advantages including the use of existing processing equipment and its eco‐friendly acceptable nature 23. Meanwhile, manufacturing of layered silicate nanocomposite with two‐roll mill is used only seldom.…”

“…Thermal properties of polymer nanocomposites are important because of the fact that thermal degradation is one of the important criterions for designing these materials for engineering applications. In the case of polymer nanocomposites, dispersion of filler in the polymer matrix and the nanocomposite structure plays a significant role in changing the thermal behavior [26, 27]. So, to determine the thermal stability of nanocomposites with different clay content (0, 1, 3, and 5 wt%), thermal behavior of the nanocomposites were analyzed and the resultant thermo grams are shown in Fig.…”
