In this paper, the control technique of the stepping motor using back electromotive force(B-EMF) without encoder is investigated. The stepping motor generally uses the rotary encoder to detect the rotor position. Since this method increases the cost and the motor configuration size, the new closed-loop control method applied for the B-EMF was implemented by using current detect circuit, AD-converter, and micro controller unit(MCU). The contorl loop of stepping motor became very simplified. The current change of stepping motor measured by the amplifier was measured and analyzed, when the missing step is occurred. Based on the data from current feedback, position errors were compensated and confirmed by using AD-converter.

Abstract-This paper describes the use of the currentflux-linkage (i−ψ) diagram to validate the performance of a general magnetic-energy-based torque estimator. An early step in the torque estimation is the use of controller duty cycles to reconstruct the average phase-voltage waveform during each pulsewidthmodulation (PWM) switching period. Samples over the fundamental period are recorded for the estimation of the average torque. The fundamental period may not be an exact multiple of the sample time. For low speed, the reconstructed voltage requires additional compensation for inverter-device losses. Experimental validation of this reconstructed waveform with the actual PWM phase-voltage waveform is impossible due to the fact that one is PWM in nature and the other is the average value during the PWM period. A solution to this is to determine the phase flux-linkage using each waveform and then plot the resultant i−ψ loops. The torque estimation is based on instantaneous measurements and can therefore be applied to any electrical machine. This paper includes test results for a three-phase interior permanent-magnet brushless ac motor operating with both sinusoidal and nonsinusoidal current waveforms.Index Terms-Brushless permanent-magnet (PM) motor drives, electromagnetic average torque, torque estimator.

Abstract-A double-stage feedback control structure for a double-stage mechanical system, with a single optical metrology is developed to reach nanometer accuracy at high bandwidth over large displacements. A piezoelectric stack actuator is used for fine positioning, while a permanent magnet (PM) stepper motor handles the coarse positioning.Two different control approaches are compared for driving the PM stepper motor, while a classical PID controller is designed to drive the piezoelectric actuator. Since only a single measurement device is used, the references for both control loops (fine and coarse) must be appropriately obtained. An adequate control structure including a partial observer is designed so as to take into account the influence of the fine actuator on the position estimation of the coarse actuator. The complete control mechanism and strategy ensure the tracking of the real reference with sufficient accuracy and bandwidth.
