High-Precision CO2 Column Length Analysis on the Basis of a 1.57-μm Dual-Wavelength IPDA Lidar

Abstract: For high-precision measurements of the CO2 column concentration in the atmosphere with airborne integrated path differential absorption (IPDA) Lidar, the exact distance of the Lidar beam to the scattering surface, that is, the length of the column, must be measured accurately. For the high-precision inversion of the column length, we propose a set of methods on the basis of the actual conditions, including autocorrelation detection, adaptive filtering, Gaussian decomposition, and optimized Levenberg–Marquardt … Show more

“…During the last decade (2009–2019), CO 2 concentrations increased at the fastest observed decadal rate of change (2.4 ppm/year), which is higher than that during of any previous decade since direct atmospheric concentration measurements began in 1958 [ 4 , 5 ]. Measurement of the atmospheric CO 2 column concentrations is valuable for understanding regional carbon emissions, sources, and sinks [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 ]. Therefore, it is crucial to measure CO 2 column concentrations accurately to support ongoing efforts to reduce CO 2 emissions.…”
