High-Pressure Design of Advanced BN-Based Materials

Abstract: Abstract:The aim of the present review is to highlight the state of the art in high-pressure design of new advanced materials based on boron nitride. Recent experimental achievements on the governing phase transformation, nanostructuring and chemical synthesis in the systems containing boron nitride at high pressures and high temperatures are presented. All these developments allowed discovering new materials, e.g., ultrahard nanocrystalline cubic boron nitride (nano-cBN) with hardness comparable to diamond, a… Show more

“…Mulberry ( Morus alba L.) is moraceous plant that holds a long history of cultivation, mainly in Asian countries. Its leaves and fruits are usually consumed as a food or food additive, and are also used in folklore medicine [ 1 , 2 ]. Mulberry leaves are recognized as the sole food source for silkworms, which are prosperous in the silk industry; they are also commonly used as anti-diabetic, hypolipidemic, anti-hypertensive, anti-atherosclerotic, and anti-convulsant agents [ 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ].…”

“…The high-pressure experiments at 1.5-8 GPa (according to the hBN equation of state) 20 with direct temperature measurements were carried out using the multianvil X-ray system MAX80 21 with anvils of tungsten carbide. The diffraction measurements were performed in energy-dispersive mode at beamline F2.1 (HASYLAB-DESY, Hamburg).…”

“…In comparison, graphite-like hBN and pBN with more flattened layers readily form nanograined cBN but hardly form the ubiquitous nanotwin microstructure [5,6]. Therefore, the structural features of starting materials would determine the microstructure of the transformed products in BN system [5,6,8,9,16,17]. In addition, the size effect of precursor is important, e.g., TiO 2 anatase nanocrystals exhibit strong size-dependent phase selectivity at high pressure [18].…”
