Abstract: Background: The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) are associated with significant chronic inflammation of the gastric mucosa. Gastric inflammation is a precursor to many gastrointestinal disorders including, peptic ulcer disease, atrophic gastritis (AG) and gastric cancer (GC).
