High-Rate Nonbinary Regular Quasi-Cyclic LDPC Codes for Optical Communications

Abstract: Abstract-The parity-check matrix of a nonbinary (NB) low-density parity-check (LDPC) code over Galois field GF( ) is constructed by assigning nonzero elements from GF( ) to the 1s in corresponding binary LDPC code. In this paper, we state and prove a theorem that establishes a necessary and sufficient condition that an NB matrix over GF( ) constructed by assigning nonzero elements from GF( ) to the 1s in the parity-check matrix of a binary quasi-cyclic (QC) LDPC code, must satisfy in order for its null-space t… Show more

“…However, we need to stress that random non-zero element assignment from GF(q) to the 1s in the parity-check marix of a binary QC-LDPC code does not always result in a parity-check matrix that defines a q-ary QC-LDPC code as we showed in our recent paper [21] . To obtain a q-ary QC-LDPC code as the null-space of a paritycheck matrix H given in the form of Eq.…”

“…To obtain a q-ary QC-LDPC code as the null-space of a paritycheck matrix H given in the form of Eq. (1), one needs to ensure that each row , 0 1, k k q in the i-th block-row , 0 , i i H of the resulting H matrix must be obtained from the 0-th row of by k cyclic shifts and a scalar multiplication by some power of the primitive element i H [21] .…”
