High‐selectivity wideband balanced bandpass filters using symmetrical multi‐mode resonators

Abstract: Two novel high-selectivity wideband balanced bandpass filters using symmetrical multi-mode resonators are presented. The proposed novel multi-mode resonator is used to realise a six-order wide passband in the differential mode. In addition, wide stopbands with insertion loss greater than 15 and 20 dB for the commode mode (0-18.5 GHz, 0-19 GHz) can also be achieved by the multi-mode resonators. The even/odd-modes of the symmetrical multi-mode resonators can be adjusted by changing the characteristic impedance o… Show more

“…On the other hand, filters are essential components of any communications system. In this way, many papers have been published in recent years dealing with the appropriate design of a variety of microwave differential balanced filters, including narrow band [1–3], wideband [4–6] or dual‐band [7, 8] implementations. All those examples correspond to conventional microstrip technology, although differential devices based on LTCC [9] or SIW technologies are also available [10].…”

“…Multi-mode resonators (MMR) with controlled resonant frequencies have been widely used in the wideband single-ended filter designs with compact size and good electrical performance [6,7]. Recently, there has been research on the application of the MMRs in the wideband balanced filter designs [8,9]. However, these designs do not provide satisfactory in-band common-mode (CM) suppression because of the difficulty in suppressing the odd-mode resonances.…”

“…There have been researches on the application of the microstrip MMR with controllable resonant frequencies in the wideband balanced filters. In and , the compact wideband balanced BPFs were presented based on the third‐mode stub loaded microstrip resonator and two new symmetrical microstrip MMR, respectively. Good DM transmission characteristic and broadband CM suppression are easily achieved.…”
