High-Sulfur Additive for Transmission Oils

Abstract: A new additive for transmission oils is synthesized by reacting an amylene fraction with sulfur monochloride, followed by sulfidation of the resulting reaction mixture with sodium sulfide. Results are reported from tests of TM-4-12, SAE 80W-85, and API GL-4 transmission oils with the use of the synthesized high-sulfur additive. A basic diagram of the additive production process is proposed.
