High-Temperature Friction and Wear Properties of X-BaSO4 (X: Al2O3, NiAl) Composites Prepared by Spark Plasma Sintering

Abstract: , Ni-Cr alloy and NiAl) composites were prepared by spark plasma sintering, and their friction and wear properties were investigated from at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 1073 K in air. The friction coefficients of the Al 2 O 3 -50 mass% BaSO 4 composites varied from 0.2 to 0.4 at the temperature range. The NiAl-50 mass% BaSO 4 composites and Ni-Cr alloy-based composites containing 50 mass% BaSO 4 showed low friction coefficients at temperatures over 873 K, although their friction coefficients … Show more

“…The wear tests of the composites were performed by using a ball-on-block high temperature tribometer in dry sliding against a 9.53 mm Al 2 O 3 ball [10]. The Al 2 O 3 balls were used in the as-received condition with a surface roughness of 0.02 µm (Ra), a hardness of 16.5 GPa and a density of 3.95 g/cm 3 .…”

“…After wear tests, the wear depth profiles of all the wear tracks were examined by using a surface profilometer. A set of equally spaced depth profiles covering the whole wear track area was used to evaluate the volumetric wear of the composites [10].…”
