High‐throughput ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry method for the rapid analysis and characterization of multiple constituents of Radix Polygalae

Abstract: Radix Polygalae, the dried roots of Polygala tenuifolia and P. sibirica, is one of the most well-known traditional Chinese medicinal plants. It is an important medicinal plant that has been used as a sedative and to improve memory for a number of years in most of Asia. However, the in vivo constituents of the multiple constituents from Radix Polygalae remain unknown. In the current study, ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry and the MarkerLynx soft… Show more

“…The constituents of corn silk aqueous extract were analyzed by a UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS approach, and then the base peak intensity chromatograms (Figure 1) were obtained. After multiple data processing steps, 76 compounds including caffeic acid (peak 35) and ten of its derived components (peaks 16,20,26,28,31,33,36,49, 51, and 54), (E)-p-coumaric acid (peak 46) and two of its derived components (peaks 24 and 42), ferulic acid (peak 53) and four of its derived components (peaks 27, 30, 38, and 47), five flavones (peaks 44, 45, 55, 61, and 63) and other constituents were successfully identified in negative mode. The identified results were shown in Table 1.…”

“…Iwanaga et al have evidence that prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) produced by mast cells can inhibit colitis and subsequent tumor formation, and can be used to prevent and treat colon cancer [116]. Canine uric acid (KYNA) acts as a tryptophan metabolite to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells such as colon cancer and kidney cancer, and KYNA is considered to be a potential chemo preventive agent for colon cancer [117][118][119]. The small molecule compound sulfi dic can prevent colon cancer from treating pre-stage adenoma, but it is toxic in the cardiovascular and renal systems.…”

“…It is extensively accepted that a large number of chemical constituents existing in TCM could hit multiple targets and be responsible for its therapeutic and synergistic effects (Yao, ; Liu et al, ), and not only the absorbed constituents but also their metabolites might exhibit therapeutic effects (Wang et al, ; Zhang et al, ). Therefore, the metabolism and pharmacokinetic studies of XMGJ are interdependent, and could elucidate the therapeutic material basis and action mechanism of TCM prescriptions.…”
