High‐Yield Synthesis of Single‐Crystalline Gold Nano‐octahedra

“…On the other hand, a slight broadening without significant shift in 2θ value (Fig 1d.) has been observed for the nanoparticles obtained from co-precipitation method with Ce substitution. In co-precipitation method the use of ethylene glycol as a solvent, which also act as reducing agent [28], helps to maintain the reducing environment so that chances of conversion of Ce 3+ into Ce 4+ may become less and thus 7 no significant shifting has been observed in 2θ value in XRD pattern for the nanoparticles obtained via co-precipitation route. These results clearly demonstrate the crucial role played by the chosen method of preparation in controlling the structural parameters of the synthesized nanoparticles.…”

“…To generate specific Au nanostructures having unique shapes or morphologies, a capping agent such as organic surfactant or polymer stabilizer is often needed for the synthesis. [16] In practice, a water-based system is desired for the aration of Au (as well as other noble metals) nanoparticles due to the exclusion of toxic organic solvents or reagents. In addition, the readily accessibility of water in extremely high purity as compared to organic solvents is also a distinct benAbstract: Herein we describe a protocol that generates Au icosahedra in high yields by simply mixing aqueous solutions of HAuCl 4 and N-vinyl pyrrolidone.…”

“…For the AuNPs synthesized by seed-mediated growth approach [109], AuNPs generally show morphologies of tetrahedron (four triangles) [131], hexahedron (cube, six squares) [132], octahedron (eight triangles) [133], dodecahedron (twelve pentagons) [134], and icosahedron (twenty triangles) [135], which are characterized by lowindex facets ({111} for tetrahedron, octahedron, dodecahedron and icosahedron, and {100} for the cube. AuNPs also showed rhombic dodecahedral shape [133], which could further transform into other nonplatonic shapes such as rhombic cuboctahedron and then truncated octahedron in the presence of PVP at a low water content [109].…”
