Highlights of the 27th ISPD annual conference hosted in the historic and atmospheric city of EdinburghThe 27th ISPD conference was held in Edinburgh in July 2023 in sight of the famous and majestic Castle. In addition to a great scientific programme, delegates and their families visited local distilleries, Edinburgh and Stirling Castles, were taken on guided historic walking tours of the city and the speakers were piped in to dinner at the Surgeons Hall (if they still had an appetite after visiting the museum!). We were even treated to un-Scottish like warm and sunny weather.Despite the attractions/distractions outside of the conference hall, we had a near record number of delegates and a very stimulating and diverse scientific programme, some of the highlights of which are published in this issue of Prenatal Diagnosis.As usual we had a couple of lively debates which were anticipated with relish. The first saw Pranav Pandya (England) and Erik Sistermans (Netherlands) debate whether non-invasive prenatal testing for aneuploidy should replace other screening approaches. The role of nuchal translucency, detecting anomalies early in pregnancy, screening for other adverse pregnancy outcomes versus the better performance of NIPT as a screening test all came into play. 1 The second debate also covered the use of cell
