Highly Dichroic Metallomesogen of Dinuclear Platinum Complex: Synthesis and Liquid Crystal and Photophysical Properties

Abstract: A novel dinuclear platinum complex of (biC 12 ppy-fl)-Pt 2 C 12 DBM) 2 with liquid crystal luminescent property has been prepared, as well as its liquid crystal, optophysical properties and hole mobility have been studied, where biC 12 ppy-fl is 6,6′-[4,4′-(9,9-didodecyl-9H-fluorene-2,7-diyl)bis-(1,4-phenylene)]bis [3-(dodecyloxymethyl)pyridine] and C 12 DBM is 1,3-bis[4-(dodecyloxy)phenyl]propane-1,3-dione. This dinuclear platinum complex displayed a smectic mesophase and excellent opto-physical properties. C… Show more

“…Jiang et al designed a novel dinuclear platinum complex 22 (Figure 14), in which 1,6-bis((6-(4-(dodecyloxy)phenyl)pyridin-3-yl)oxy)hexane was used as cyclometalated ligand and 1,3-(1-n-hexyl,3-n-heptadecyl) diketone as ancillary ligand. 99 Complex 23 revealed a lamellar structure and a broad emission in the region of 450-700 nm both in CH 2 Cl 2 solution and as neat film. This crystalline binuclear platinum complex showed a transition to a smectic phase at relatively low temperature (42 o C).…”

“…Wang et al also reported a dinuclear platinum complex, in this case employing a conjugated fluorene moiety as the linking group (17, Figure 11). 61 This complex presented a smectic mesophase with relatively low transition temperature owing to the presence and relative orientation of the flexible chains. Complex 17 revealed a broad emission in the region of 450-700 nm both in CH2Cl2 solution and the neat film, which demonstrated that there was a strong intermolecular interaction leading to longwavelength emission.…”
