Highly Selective Wearable Alcohol Homologue Sensors Derived from Pt-Coated Truncated Octahedron Au

Abstract: Unhealthy alcohol inhalation is among the top 10 causes of preventable death. However, the present alcohol sensors show poor selectivity among alcohol homologues. Herein, Pt-coated truncated octahedron Au (Pt m @Auto) as the electrocatalyst for a highly selective electrochemical sensor toward alcohol homologues has been designed. The alcohol sensor is realized by distinguishing the electro-oxidation behavior of methanol (MeOH), ethanol (EtOH), or isopropanol (2-propanol). Intermediates from alcohols are furthe… Show more

“…This is because the rough and concave surface of {100} behaves as high-index facets where many kinks and steps increase the overall surface energy. In addition, Ag preferentially adsorbs on the surface of Au {100} facets during shape transformation (Step 1 in Figure ), ,, facilitating selective Pt deposition on those facets by supplying additional electrons. It is clearly seen that most Pt atoms were deposited on the concave facets, leading to the formation of six Pt square nanoplates on a single Au TOH (Figure S6).…”

“…Heterogeneous catalysis plays an important role in energy conversion, , biomass transformation, , and the chemical industry. , The development of heterogeneous catalysts with high selectivity has attracted the attention of many researchers because it meets the requirements of green and sustainable chemistry . Diverse tactics, including composition regulation, , structure design, , surface modification, , and support selection, , have been developed to improve selectivity. Among these approaches, defect regulation for the catalyst stands out .…”
