Highly sensitive colorimetric sensing of copper(ii) ions based on “CLICK-17” DNAzyme-catalyzed azide modified gold nanoparticles and alkyne capped dsDNA cycloaddition

Abstract: We report selective and visual detection of Cu2+ based on aggregation of azide modified gold nanoparticles induced by CLICK-17 DNAzyme and Cu2+ or Cu+ catalyzed click reaction between azide-AuNPs and alkyne-dsDNA.

“…[32][33][34][35][36] The ligand, HAZ, acts as a N,O chelating agent by coordinating to the central Cu (II) ion through the imine-N (C=N) and phenolato-O (-OH) of the orthovanillin moiety generating near square-planar geometry with CuN 2 O 2 coordination sphere (Table S3). The C10-N1-C13-C14 torsion angle in the copper complex is À172.5 (8) , and is comparable to the torsion angle of ligand which is À179.9(2) . The deprotonated ligand (AZ À ) binds through the phenolato-O and imine-N (C=N) to form a stable Cu (II) complex.…”

“…[7] Many reports already exist whereby metal ion, like Cu 2+ , has been successfully detected using spectrophotometric techniques. [8][9][10][11][12] The importance of Cu 2+ is numerous in the development of civilisation (The Copper Age!) and the sustenance of living bodies.…”

“…Numerous analytical approaches have been employed for detecting Cu 2+ , including colorimetry [ 4 ], fluorometry [ 5 ], surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy [ 6 ], and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) [ 7 ], etc. Fluorometry is famous for its highly sensitive quantification, and colorimetry is favored for its simple, cost-effective, and naked-eye readout [ 8 ].…”
