Highly Sensitive Humidity Sensors Based on Polyethylene Oxide/CuO/Multi Walled Carbon Nanotubes Composite Nanofibers

Abstract: Polymer composites are favorite materials for sensing applications due to their low cost and easy fabrication. In the current study, composite nanofibers consisting of polyethylene oxide (PEO), oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles with 1% and 3% of fillers (i.e., PEO–CuO–MWCNT: 1%, and PEO–CuO–MWCNT: 3%) were successfully developed through electrospinning for humidity sensing applications. The composite nanofibers were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM and EDX analy… Show more

“…Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) thin film-coated metal oxide layers have recently been exploited to implement ultra-high sensitivity gas sensors. A thin MOF layer is gradually coated on the ZnO surface to form an ultrahigh sensitive layer to further tune the newly integrated MOF and ZnO materials with desired properties to detect gas and humidity efficiently [20][21][22]. The piezoelectric sensor can be used in sensing applications based on the changes in the physical properties of the device, such as stress or the mass due to gas absorption at the surface of the device.…”

“…Graphene has an overabundance of potential applications in various fields of interest, including optoelectronics, photonics, medicine, and so on [46,47]. For instance, nonlinear optical materials have been widely exploited towards the protection of sensitive instruments from laser-induced damage [48], to increase the performance in water treatment technologies [49], to form functional coatings (e.g., graphene coated plastic materials which are used to improve shelf life in medical firms and to increase resistance against corrosive acids) [50], to improve conductivity in rechargeable batteries [51], to prepare lenses with improved microscopic refractive indices by reducing the thickness of the lens [52], and to store hydrogen for medical purposes [53]. Growth factors and chemical agents have been frequently used to promote stem cell proliferation and differentiation.…”

“…Monitoring and controlling the ambient humidity are highly important in many industrial sectors, for example for food processing and packaging, drug manufacturing and storage, semiconductor fabrication, preservation of antiques and paintings, etc. [1][2][3] Moreover, humidity is an essential criterion in many biological processes and can signicantly inuence people's health and physiological comfort. 4,5 The widespread distribution of electronic devices connected to the internet has made it possible to exchange, share and process data in realtime by objects, giving life to the Internet of Things (IoT).…”
