Highly sensitive volatile organic compounds vapour measurements using a long period grating optical fibre sensor coated with metal organic framework ZIF-8

Abstract: a b s t r a c tAn optical fibre long period grating (LPG) based volatile organic compound (VOC) sensor coated with ZIF-8, a material from the zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF) family, functional coating is presented. ZIF-8 film was deposited onto the surface of the LPG using an in-situ crystallization technique by mixing freshly prepared 12.5 mM zinc nitrate hexahydrate and 25 mM 2-metyl-imidazole solutions in methanol. A concentration specific response to acetone, ethanol and methanol vapour was obtained ov… Show more

“…29 Owing to the above fascinating features, UiO-66 (Zr) can be used as promising materials for the gas sensing study. Various transduction mechanism such as optical, 30 thermal, 31 magnetic, 32 surface acoustic wave guide (SAW), 33 resistance, 34 resonance, 35 and capacitive 4, [24][25][26] have been employed for the detection of target gaseous analytes. Among them, interdigitated electrode (IDE) capacitive transducer is one of the most investigated technique owing to its miniature size, low-cost, low temperature independence, easy to integrate with read circuits, and high sensing performances features.…”

“…To sum up, optical fiber grating sensors have experienced fast development in the past decades due to their advantages of flexible structure, rapid response, miniaturization, and immunity to electromagnetic interference. There is no doubt that the application fields of optical fiber grating sensors can be further enlarged by combining some novel sensing principles, introducing sensitive materials, or designing more new structures in grating …”
