Abstract:Detailed anatomical study supported the concept of mediocranial MU repositioning during corrective surgery, although the impact is minor to the levator muscle's action. Future mathematical models describing effects of such a maneuver should integrate surrounding structures.
“…Dense interdigitation to the LVP was found within the current evaluation, similar to a normal specimen (Landes et al, 2010). No interdigitation to the hard palate was found, however, contrary to Schendel et al (1999).…”

“…The results are based on a thorough examination of adult cadavers that did not have cleft lip and palate, and they are therefore less comparable to the clinically decisive situation of an infant patient than those of the present study. This has been confirmed in comparative assessments of noncleft specimens from embryonic, fetal, and adult cadavers (Landes et al, 2010).…”

“…The viscerocrania of 18 aborted embryos and fetuses beyond Carnegie Stage 20 (Hunter et al, 2003) were processed as previously described (Landes et al, 2005;Landes et al, 2006, Landes et al, 2010. The next paragraphs constitute a brief summary of the procedures implemented after receiving approval by the ethics board in charge and informed parental consent.…”

“…The remaining 10 cases (B, C, G, I, J, N, O, P, Q, and R) previously described (Landes et al, 2010) served as controls.…”

“…triple labeling suggest that the MU is functionally more relevant in infants than in adults (Landes et al, 2010).…”
Cleft lip and palate reconstruction should reasonably use the uvular muscle to augment the velar midline bulk. Uvular muscle deformation calculation was successful, permitting functional insight on the basis of microanatomical specimens, so far a bigger complete velar model can be ventured.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
