Histopathological Findings Predict Renal Recovery in Severe ANCA-Associated Vasculitis Requiring Intensive Care Treatment

Abstract: Renal involvement is a common and severe complication of AAV as it can cause ESRD. Histopathological subgrouping and ARRS are helpful to predict long-term ESRD in patients with AAV. Because a subgroup of critically ill patients with severe AAV present with deterioration of kidney function requiring RRT at admission, we here aimed to evaluate histopathological findings and predictive value of Berden's histopathological subgrouping and ARRS for severity of AKI and requirement of RRT during the short-term clinica… Show more

“…A total number of 148 kidney biopsies with various intrarenal renal pathologies including 53 cases with ANCA GN at the University Medical Center Göttingen were retrospectively included between 2015 and 2020, the patient cohort has previously been described [ 45 , 61 , 62 , 63 ]. While no formal approval was required for the use of routine clinical data, a favorable ethical opinion was granted by the local Ethics committee (protocol codes: 22/2/14, approval date 22 September 2014 and 28/09/17, approval date 17 November 2017).…”

“…A total number of 48 renal biopsies with confirmed renal involvement of AAV admitted to the University Medical Center Göttingen from 2015 to 2020 were retrospectively examined. The patient cohort has, in part, been previously described [ 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 ]. Medical records were used to obtain data on the age, sex, diagnosis (MPA or GPA), and laboratory results.…”
